Facial cleanser - is your's actually good for your face?
This might seems like a rhetorical question, but it really isn't. Did you know that many facial cleansers can actually damage your skin?
Harsh ingredients like T.E.A and S.L.E.S or SLS can irritate your skin.
Avoid products that list either of these ingredients toward the top of the list, as ingredients in any facial cleanser, they will do your face no good at all!
As you may already know S.L.S which is the "stuff" that makes your cleansers foam. It does not make it work better as you can read!
My preference is a non-foaming cream cleanser. They tend to be more gentle yet very effective in removing make-up.
Also be wary of products that claim to eliminate wrinkles or prevent aging. If there really was such a product, everyone would be using it.
Accept that such a wonder face wash does not exist.
The best thing you can do for wrinkles and aging skin is to drink water and exercise regularly.
Watch for crazy pricing. Just because a product has a high price tag does not mean it is any better than a drugstore brand. It is the ingredients that make a product good not the marketing, the model, the actress or the magazine photo.
One reasonable exception to the above is that organic ingredients do cost more than non-organic options. So expect to pay a little more for organic face cleansers.
Lastly, watch for heavily scented facial cleansers. There is no need for your face wash to contain fragrance unless an essential oil is involved and only if that oil is there to provide a health benefit for your skin.
If you have sensitive skin or skin that is prone to break-out, be extra careful with your selections. Even natural and organic cleansers can cause reactions and contribute to acne or break-out, if they have ingredients that clog the pores. Be sure to select water based or non comedogenic products.
Tea tree is a good example of a beneficial oil. Tea tree helps disinfect skin.
My Cheat Sheet:
I have tried many cleansers and these are the ones I like:
Herbal Choice Face Wash - This has long been my favorite. It removes make-up thoroughly but gently. My one disappointment is that they recently increased the price but they did go with a very eco-friendly bottle.
Beauty with a Cause Green Tea Cleanse - I like this cleanser for it's anti-oxidant benefits. It works as well as the Herbal Choice brand and is actually less costly!
If bar soaps are your thing, I recommend Purple Prairie - they carry three different kinds of bar cleansers that vary according to skin needs.
