Vintage Clothes - Recycle & Make a Unique Fashion Statement

Vintage clothes are an excellent basis for creating your own unique fashion statement! With a little imagination you can design a look that is all your own and know that you are saving the planet at the same time.

But before we begin to talk about the benefits of this type of fashion statement, let's remind ourselves of one important tip to success.

If you grew up in and actually wore clothes from a particular decade, it is a forgone certainty that wearing clothes from this era again now will be a bad idea! So for example, for me to wear 70's outfits - not good -- for my teenage daughter - chic and savy!

The official definition of "vintage" clothes is that of pre-owned (secondhand) from a previous era.

"How are vintage clothes different from hand-me-downs and how are they eco-friendly?"

For one - "vintage" is refined and classy - like a fine wine. These clothes are the best of the fashion designs from the 1930's to the 1970's. So they are not merely hand-me-downs. They are selected for the quality of fabric, uniqueness of design and overall "chic-ness." They tend to be the trademark styles of the era they represent.

Clothes with a style history are effective ways to define your own style by creating a unique fashion statement. You can easily find who made a particular style popular if you are a fashionista and want emulate the qualities of that woman, but with your own special twist.

Due to it's nature this eco friendly clothing does not involve new products but rather refurbishing authentic pieces from their era.

Recycle plus imaginative fashion sense = unique fashion statement!

Vintage clothes have been made even more popular recently by celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Chloe Sevigny, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Dita von Teese.

Where to buy vintage clothing and accessories?

One easy way is to shop locally at consignment shops in your area.

Many cities even have consignment shops that specialize in retro designer items, upscale accessories, and unique fashion pieces.

If you are lucky enough to have such boutiques in your area, be sure to drop by often as new items arrive frequently. You may even want to let the owner know what sorts of pieces you prefer so that she can contact you when something especially nice comes in -- and you can have first look!

If you live in a remote area, a city without these shops or you would like more choice and variety try shopping for vintage clothes online.

Many brick and mortar shops also have online vintage boutiques! This means you can shop in places like New York or LA without ever leaving your house.

These online catalogues provide photos, prices, size and quality information to help you make a selection from afar. They will tell you if the item has ever been worn or if it shows any sign of wear.

Purchasing vintage clothes means that no new resources were used to create them and that makes them environmentally friendly.
